01The basics

What RT-3 10mg is

RT-3 is Reta, an investigational weight-loss drug that acts on three hormone pathways at once: GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. Each vial contains 10 mg of freeze-dried powder for mixing with bacteriostatic water, and it’s injected once a week.

In clinical studies, Reta produced larger average weight loss than current GLP-1 medicines, along with improvements in blood sugar, liver fat and cardiovascular markers. It’s still being tested, though, and hasn’t been approved by Health Canada or the FDA, so its long-term safety isn’t known yet. Here’s what the research shows so far.

02How it works

How it works

Reta is a single molecule that activates three receptors, which is why it’s called a “triple agonist”:

  • GLP-1: curbs appetite, slows digestion and helps the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar rises.
  • GIP: strengthens the insulin response and the effect on appetite.
  • Glucagon: raises energy expenditure and pushes the liver to burn fat. This is the part semaglutide and TZ5 don’t have.

A half-life of about 6 days keeps levels steady with one injection a week.

03Half-life

Half-life, in plain numbers

A half-life of about 6 days means half of what is in the body is gone after that time, then half of the rest, and so on. For an injected peptide it reflects how quickly the body breaks the chain down and clears it.

04Clinical reference

Dosing information

Clinical reference. Reta has no approved dose. In the published phase 2 obesity trial, weekly doses went up to 12 mg, with higher-dose groups starting at 2 mg and increasing every 4 weeks. The 12 mg group lost about 24% of body weight on average after 48 weeks.

Talk to a doctor before use.

Mixing math. Adding 1 ml of bacteriostatic water to the 10 mg vial gives 10 mg per ml, so every 10 units on a U-100 syringe is 1 mg:

  • 2 mg = 20 units
  • 4 mg = 40 units
  • 8 mg = 80 units

Label the vial with its concentration so every dose is measured the same way.

05Measure it

Measure it

Type in the amount your prescriber gave you, or the one you are working from, and this turns it into what to draw up or count out from this exact product. It only does the arithmetic; it never suggests an amount.

06Injection sites

Where it is injected

RT-3 10mg arrives as a freeze-dried powder. After it is mixed with bacteriostatic water it is normally injected under the skin, into the fat layer, with a short insulin needle.

Common siteMuscle drawing: OpenStax & Tomáš Kebert, umimeto.org, CC BY-SA 4.0, recoloured.
1Belly (abdomen)Fat under the skin of the bellySubQ
Volume per siteAbout 1 ml or lessNeedle4–13 mm insulin needle, 29–31G
  1. Pick a spot at least 5 cm (two finger-widths) from the belly button.
  2. Avoid scars, stretch marks, bruises and the waistband.
  3. Pinch up a fold of skin and inject into the fold.

Why it is used. The most fat to work with, easy to see, and the steadiest absorption. Weekly pen medicines list it first.

Careful. Move each injection at least 2–3 cm from the last to avoid firm fatty lumps (lipohypertrophy).

Volume per siteAbout 1 ml or lessNeedle4–13 mm insulin needle, 29–31G
  1. Sit and look down at the front of your thigh.
  2. Use the middle band: a hand-width below the hip crease and a hand-width above the knee.
  3. Pinch the skin and inject into the fold.

Why it is used. Easy to reach while seated, and a handy second area to rotate with the belly.

Careful. It can absorb a little more slowly than the belly; hard leg training straight afterwards can speed it up.

  1. Find the soft, fleshy area at the back of the upper arm.
  2. Stay halfway between the shoulder and the elbow.
  3. Pinch the skin and inject into the fold.

Why it is used. A third area to rotate through, so every spot gets a longer rest.

Careful. Hard to pinch and reach with one hand; most people need a helper.

  • Same areas as the weekly pensWeekly injectables in this class are labelled for the belly, thigh or back of the arm. Choose an area and move to a fresh spot each week.
  • Start with the bellyIt has the most fat and the steadiest absorption, and you can see what you are doing. The thigh and arm are there to rotate into.
  • Short needle, small volumeAround 1 ml or less per spot. A 4–13 mm insulin needle reaches the fat without touching muscle; pinch up the skin if you are lean.
  • New spot every timeShift 2–3 cm from the last injection. Reusing one spot causes firm lumps that absorb unevenly.
  • Wash your hands
  • Alcohol on the stopper and skin, let it dry
  • New sterile needle and syringe every time
  • Never share any of it
  • Sharps into a puncture-proof container

08Risks

Side effects and risks

Trial side effects resemble other GLP-1 drugs and are most common when the dose goes up.

Digestive side effects

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation were the most frequent, mostly mild to moderate and fading over time.

Heart rate

Resting heart rate rose with dose in trials. Check your pulse and stop if you get palpitations.

Pancreas and gallbladder

As with other incretin drugs, severe stomach pain spreading to the back, or upper-right pain with fever or yellow skin, needs urgent care.

Dehydration

Vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate you and strain your kidneys; drink plenty of fluids.

Still under investigation

Large, long-term trials aren’t finished, so uncommon risks may not be known yet.

Don’t use it if you

Or a family member have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, you’ve had pancreatitis, have type 1 diabetes, are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy, or are under 18.

Interactions

  • Good to knowStill in trials

Reta is investigational. The interactions below are the ones expected for its drug class.

  • SeriousInsulin and sulfonylureas

Gliclazide, glyburide and insulin together with a GLP-1 medicine cause low blood sugar more often; doctors usually lower those doses first.

  • CautionTablets that need steady levels

Stomach emptying slows, which can change how warfarin, levothyroxine and other narrow-range tablets are absorbed. INR or thyroid levels may need an extra check.

  • CautionA second GLP-1 medicine

Never use two drugs from this class at the same time (semaglutide, liraglutide, dulaglutide, TZ5, Reta).

  • Good to knowAlcohol

Adds to the risk of low blood sugar and of pancreatitis.

10Bloodwork

Bloodwork checklist

Test before you start, then about every 3 months.

  • Blood sugar: A1C and fasting glucose
  • Liver panel, to track liver fat-related enzymes
  • Kidney function and lipids
  • At home: weight, resting heart rate and blood pressure

11Support

Getting the most from it

  • Increase doses slowly; most side effects follow a dose increase.
  • Prioritize protein and resistance training to keep muscle while losing fat.
  • Eat smaller meals and stop at the first sign of fullness.
  • Keep the mixed vial in the fridge (2–8 °C); never freeze it.
  • Tell your surgeon or anesthetist before any procedure.

14Questions

Common questions

Is RT-3 the same as Reta?

Yes. RT-3 is a vial of Reta, the triple GLP-1, GIP and glucagon agonist.

How is it different from semaglutide and TZ5?

Semaglutide acts on GLP-1, and TZ5 on GLP-1 and GIP. Reta adds glucagon, which increases energy use and fat burning in the liver.

How long does one vial last?

Five weeks at 2 mg a week, two and a half at 4 mg, or just over one at 8 mg.

How fast is shipping in Canada?

Orders ship by Canada Post Xpresspost, with tracking within 72 hours of payment, with tracking.

Is Reta legal in Canada?

Reta is still in clinical trials and isn’t approved by Health Canada. It isn’t a controlled substance.

How is my order packaged?

In a plain, unbranded box with no product names on the outside.
