What Zionova Nolvadex is
Nolvadex is the brand name for tamoxifen, a SERM (selective estrogen receptor modulator) that has been used to treat and prevent breast cancer since the 1970s. Each Zionova tablet contains 20 mg of tamoxifen citrate, with 50 tablets per bottle.
In men, tamoxifen is used off-label to treat gynecomastia and to restart natural testosterone production after a steroid cycle. It’s well studied, but it isn’t harmless: it raises the risk of blood clots and has other effects you should know about.

How it works
Tamoxifen blocks estrogen in some tissues and mimics it in others.
- In breast tissue, it blocks estrogen, which is why it treats breast cancer and early gynecomastia.
- In the brain, blocking estrogen’s feedback makes the pituitary release more LH and FSH, which tells the testes to make testosterone again.
- In the liver and bone, it acts more like estrogen, which can improve some cholesterol numbers but also raises clotting risk.
Its half-life is about 5–7 days, so levels build up over the first weeks.

Dosing information
Clinical reference. For breast cancer, the standard dose is 20 mg once a day, usually for 5–10 years. For gynecomastia, studies in men have used 10–20 mg a day for about 3 months. Its use for PCT is off-label, and there’s no official dose.
One Zionova tablet is 20 mg. Talk to a doctor before use, particularly if you have any clotting risk.

Side effects and risks
Most men tolerate tamoxifen well for short courses, but a few risks are serious.
Blood clots
Tamoxifen raises the risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Leg swelling or pain, chest pain or sudden breathlessness needs emergency care.
Vision changes
Rarely, it affects the eyes (cataracts, retinal changes). Report blurred vision or changes in colour vision.
Hot flashes and mood
Hot flashes, low mood, fatigue and reduced libido are reported in some men.
Liver
Liver enzymes occasionally rise, and fatty liver has been linked to long-term use.
For women
Long-term use raises the risk of uterine cancer. Abnormal vaginal bleeding needs a doctor promptly.
Don’t use it if you
Have had a blood clot or stroke, have a clotting disorder, take warfarin, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are under 18 without a specialist.

Tamoxifen lowers anastrozole levels; in breast-cancer treatment the two are not given together.

How it fits after a cycle
After steroids, natural testosterone is suppressed because the brain stopped sending LH and FSH. Tamoxifen helps restart that signal. It’s usually started once the steroids used have cleared, which ranges from a few days for short esters to about three weeks for long ones such as decanoate. Clomid (clomiphene) works similarly and is sometimes used instead of or alongside it. Bloodwork after PCT shows whether your own production has returned.

Nolvadex or Clomid for PCT?
Both are SERMs that restart LH and FSH. Tamoxifen is often better tolerated; clomiphene can cause visual disturbances and mood changes in some men. Some protocols use one, some use both.
Can Nolvadex reverse gynecomastia?
It works best on new, tender breast tissue. Established, firm tissue that has been there for months usually doesn’t respond and may need surgery.
Does Nolvadex lower estrogen?
No. It blocks estrogen at certain receptors but doesn’t lower estrogen levels in the blood; that’s what aromatase inhibitors like Arimidex do.
