What Reta 10mg is
Reta is retatrutide, an experimental weight-loss peptide from Eli Lilly. Each vial contains 10 mg of freeze-dried powder that’s mixed with bacteriostatic water before use. Retatrutide is the first “triple agonist”: it acts on GLP-1 (like semaglutide), GIP (like TZ5) and glucagon receptors at once.
Early trials produced some of the largest weight losses seen with any medication. But retatrutide is still in clinical trials and hasn’t been approved by Health Canada or any other regulator, so long-term safety isn’t known. Here’s what the published research shows.

How it works
Retatrutide combines three hormone signals in one molecule:
- GLP-1: reduces appetite, slows stomach emptying and boosts insulin when blood sugar is high.
- GIP: adds to the insulin and appetite effects.
- Glucagon: increases energy use and helps the liver burn fat, which may explain its larger weight loss.
Its half-life is about 6 days, so it’s injected once a week.
Side effects and risks
Expect the side effects of GLP-1 drugs, plus a few specific to retatrutide. All are more likely at higher doses and after dose increases.
Stomach side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation were the most common in trials, mostly mild to moderate and worst when the dose rises.
Faster heart rate
Trials found a dose-related increase in resting heart rate. Check your pulse, and stop if you notice palpitations.
Pancreas and gallbladder
As with other GLP-1 drugs, severe stomach pain spreading to the back, or upper-right pain with fever or yellow skin, needs urgent care.
Unknown long-term effects
Large, long trials are still under way. Rare risks may not be known yet.
Muscle loss
Rapid weight loss takes muscle with it. Eat enough protein and keep up resistance training.
Don’t use it if you
Or a family member have had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2, you’ve had pancreatitis, you have type 1 diabetes, you’re pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy, or you’re under 18.
Bloodwork checklist
Test before you start and about every 3 months.
- A1C and fasting glucose
- Kidney function: creatinine, eGFR
- Liver panel and lipids
- At home: weight, resting heart rate and blood pressure
Dosing information
Clinical reference. There’s no approved dose. In the published phase 2 obesity trial, participants took retatrutide once a week at doses up to 12 mg; higher-dose groups started at 2 mg and increased every 4 weeks. At 12 mg, average weight loss was about 24% after 48 weeks.
Talk to a doctor before use.
Mixing math. Adding 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to the 10 mg vial gives 5 mg per ml. On a U-100 insulin syringe:
- 1 mg = 0.2 ml = 20 units
- 2 mg = 0.4 ml = 40 units
- 4 mg = 0.8 ml = 80 units
Write the concentration on the vial and double-check ml versus units every time.
Getting the most from it
- Start low and increase slowly; most stomach side effects come with dose increases.
- Eat protein at every meal and lift weights 2–3 times a week to protect muscle.
- Drink plenty of water; vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate you.
- Keep the vial in the fridge (2–8 °C) once mixed, and never freeze it.
- Tell your surgeon or anesthetist before any procedure, as with other GLP-1 drugs.

Common questions
How is retatrutide different from Ozempic or TZ5?
Semaglutide (Ozempic, or our SM5) acts on GLP-1; TZ5 acts on GLP-1 and GIP. Retatrutide adds glucagon, a third target, which in trials produced larger average weight loss.
Is retatrutide approved?
No. It’s still being studied in phase 3 trials and hasn’t been approved in Canada or elsewhere.
How long does a 10 mg vial last?
It depends on the dose: five weeks at 2 mg a week, two and a half at 4 mg.
How fast is shipping in Canada?
Orders placed before 2 PM EST, Monday to Friday, ship the same business day by Canada Post Xpresspost, with tracking.
Is retatrutide legal in Canada?
Retatrutide isn’t approved by Health Canada and isn’t a controlled substance.
How is my order packaged?
In a plain, unbranded box with no product names on the outside.
