How it works
Cypionate’s ester is slightly longer than enanthate’s, with a half-life of about 5–8 days. After an injection, testosterone peaks within a couple of days and then slowly declines, which is why weekly or twice-weekly injections are typical.
- Anabolic effect: more muscle protein synthesis, better recovery and strength.
- Estrogen: some converts to estradiol through aromatase. Too much leads to bloating and breast tissue growth; too little hurts joints, mood and libido.
- DHT: some converts to DHT, behind acne, oily skin and scalp hair loss.
Side effects and risks
Price doesn’t change the risk profile. These scale with dose and duration.
Suppression
Outside testosterone switches off LH and FSH. Natural production and sperm counts drop, and the testes shrink. Talk to a doctor first if you’re planning children.
Thick blood
Hematocrit climbs as red blood cell production rises. Above the normal range, the risk of clots and stroke goes up. Donating blood or lowering the dose are common fixes.
Cardiovascular
Raised blood pressure and lower HDL (“good”) cholesterol, especially above replacement doses. Stay active and track both.
Gynecomastia
High estradiol can cause puffy, tender nipples and breast tissue growth. Catch it early with bloodwork, since established tissue often needs surgery.
Injection site problems
Soreness is normal; worsening redness, warmth or a hard, painful lump a few days later can be an abscess and needs medical care. Use sterile equipment every time.
Don’t use it if you
Are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, have or have had prostate or breast cancer, untreated sleep apnea, high hematocrit, or heart, liver or kidney disease. In women it causes virilization that can be permanent.

Get tested before you start, again at 6–8 weeks, and 4–6 weeks after your last injection. On TRT, every 3–6 months once stable.
