Choosing the right syringe and needle

  • Gauge is the needle’s thickness: the higher the number, the thinner the needle. 25-gauge is thin enough to be comfortable and still works with most oils, though thick or cold oils draw slowly.
  • Barrel size matters for accuracy. A 3 ml syringe suits doses of about 0.5 ml and up; for very small doses, such as peptides or low-dose testosterone, a 1 ml syringe or U-100 insulin syringe is easier to read.
  • Drawing tip: many people draw oil with a larger needle, then swap to a fresh, thinner one for the injection. That keeps the injecting needle sharp and sterile.

Using them safely

Most injection problems come from reused or unsterile equipment.

One use only

Use a new syringe and needle for every injection. Reused needles go dull, damage tissue and carry bacteria.

Never share

Sharing needles or syringes, even once, can spread HIV and hepatitis B and C.

Clean technique

Wash your hands, swab the vial top and the skin with alcohol, and let them dry before injecting.
