What BPC-157 5mg is

BPC-157 (“Body Protection Compound 157”) is a synthetic peptide of 15 amino acids, based on a fragment of a protein found in human stomach juice. Each vial contains 5 mg of freeze-dried powder for mixing with bacteriostatic water.

It’s popular for injuries to tendons, ligaments, muscle and the gut, based mostly on animal studies, many from one research group. Human studies are very limited, and BPC-157 isn’t approved as a medicine anywhere. Here’s an honest summary of what’s known.

How it works

In lab and animal studies, BPC-157 appears to:

  • Promote new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) at injury sites, which may speed repair.
  • Increase growth hormone receptors on tendon cells and support their migration and survival.
  • Protect the gut lining in models of ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease.

These findings are promising, but they come mainly from rats. Whether they translate to people at the doses used hasn’t been properly tested.

Side effects and risks

The biggest risk with BPC-157 is what we don’t know.

Little human safety data

There are only a handful of small human studies. Side effects in people haven’t been systematically tracked.

Cancer question

Because it promotes blood vessel growth, there’s a theoretical concern it could help existing tumours grow. This hasn’t been studied in people.

Injection site reactions

Redness, itching or soreness at the injection site are commonly reported.

Quality and sterility

Unapproved peptides aren’t checked by regulators. Mix and store carefully to keep the vial sterile.

Dizziness and nausea

Occasionally reported by users, usually short-lived.

Don’t use it if you

Have active cancer or a history of it, are pregnant or breastfeeding, are under 18, or compete in tested sport (it’s on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list).

Before you use it

  • Get the injury diagnosed. A torn tendon or ligament may need imaging, physiotherapy or surgery that no peptide replaces.
  • Keep doing rehab. Loading and physiotherapy are what actually remodel tendons.
  • Use sterile technique every time you draw from the vial.
  • Tell your doctor what you’re using, especially before surgery.

Dosing information

Clinical reference. BPC-157 has no approved human dose. Doses in circulation are extrapolated from animal studies, not established by human trials.

Talk to a doctor before use.

Mixing math. Adding 2 ml of bacteriostatic water to the 5 mg vial gives 2.5 mg (2,500 mcg) per ml. On a U-100 insulin syringe:

  • 250 mcg = 0.1 ml = 10 units
  • 500 mcg = 0.2 ml = 20 units

Write the concentration on the vial.

Mixing and storage

  • Bacteriostatic water and syringes are sold separately; see Pairs well with below.
  • Swab the vial tops, then add the water slowly down the side of the vial.
  • Swirl gently until clear; don’t shake.
  • Store unmixed and mixed vials in the fridge (2–8 °C), away from light. Don’t freeze a mixed vial.
