What Arimidex by Genetix Pharma is
Arimidex is the brand name for anastrozole, an aromatase inhibitor (AI). Each Genetix Pharma tablet contains 1 mg, with 50 tablets per bottle. It’s prescribed to treat hormone-sensitive breast cancer in postmenopausal women by lowering estrogen.
Men use it off-label to control high estradiol from testosterone or aromatizing steroids. It’s very effective, which is also the risk: estrogen that’s pushed too low causes its own problems. This page explains how to use bloodwork, not guesswork.

How it works
Aromatase is the enzyme that converts testosterone to estradiol. Anastrozole blocks it, lowering estradiol in the blood.
- Strong effect: 1 mg a day lowers estradiol by most of its value in postmenopausal women.
- Reversible: unlike exemestane (Aromasin), it doesn’t permanently disable the enzyme, so estrogen returns when it wears off.
- Half-life about 2 days, so even infrequent doses have a lasting effect.
Men need estrogen too, for bones, joints, libido, mood and cholesterol. The goal is normal, not zero.

Dosing information
Clinical reference. For breast cancer, the label dose is 1 mg once a day. In men, studies of anastrozole for low testosterone or high estradiol have used much less, often 1 mg once to three times a week, adjusted with bloodwork.
One Genetix tablet is 1 mg. Talk to a doctor before use, and never take an AI without a confirmed high estradiol result.

Side effects and risks
Most problems with anastrozole in men come from taking too much.
Estrogen too low
Achy or “dry” joints, low libido, erectile problems, fatigue and low mood are classic signs of crashed estradiol.
Bone health
Low estrogen over time weakens bones and raises fracture risk.
Cholesterol
Lowering estrogen can worsen HDL and LDL, adding to the strain that steroids already put on lipids.
Hot flashes and headaches
Common side effects, mostly at higher doses.
Liver
Liver enzymes occasionally rise; a liver panel on long-term use is sensible.
Don’t use it if you
Are pregnant or breastfeeding, are a premenopausal woman (except under a specialist), have osteoporosis, or haven’t confirmed high estradiol with a blood test.

10Uses
When it’s actually needed
Many men on TRT never need an AI. Signs that estradiol may be high include water retention, puffy or tender nipples and mood swings, but these overlap with other causes, so confirm with a sensitive estradiol test before acting. Often, lowering the testosterone dose or splitting injections fixes the problem without an AI. If gynecomastia has already started, tamoxifen (Nolvadex) blocks estrogen in breast tissue directly. Do I need Arimidex on TRT?
Not usually. Most men on replacement doses keep estradiol in a healthy range without one. Use it only if bloodwork confirms high estradiol with symptoms.
Arimidex or Aromasin?
Both lower estrogen. Anastrozole (Arimidex) blocks the enzyme reversibly; exemestane (Aromasin) disables it permanently and has a mild androgenic effect. Some find Aromasin easier on lipids. Either can push estrogen too low.
How do I know my estrogen is too low?
Aching joints, low libido, poor erections, fatigue and flat mood. A sensitive estradiol test confirms it.
