- Equipoise is boldenone undecylenate, a veterinary steroid developed for horses. It has never been approved for people.
- It’s very long-acting: a half-life of about 14 days means slow build-up and slow clearance.
- Its signature effect is on red blood cells. Hematocrit can rise sharply, which thickens the blood.
- Many users report increased appetite and anxiety.
Equipoise, or “EQ”, has a reputation as a slow, steady, mild steroid that adds quality muscle and vascularity. Some of that reputation holds up and some doesn’t, and its effect on blood is one of the most important things to understand before using it. This guide covers what boldenone is, why it’s so slow, the risks, and what to monitor.
What is Equipoise?
Boldenone is testosterone with one extra double bond in its structure. That change reduces how much of it converts to estrogen (roughly half the rate of testosterone) and slightly changes its effects. Equipoise is the veterinary brand name for boldenone undecylenate, used to improve appetite, weight and muscle in horses. There’s no human pharmaceutical version, so there’s no clinical human dose and no human trial data to guide use.
The very long ester
Undecylenate is one of the longest esters used in steroids, giving boldenone a half-life of about 14 days. That has practical consequences:
- Blood levels build slowly, taking weeks to reach a steady state
- Side effects also build slowly, and can keep rising after you notice them
- After stopping, it takes many weeks to clear, so suppression lasts longer
Slow in, slow out. If Equipoise causes a problem, you can’t stop it quickly. That’s the main argument for knowing how you respond to faster compounds first.
What users report
- Gradual muscle gain with less water retention than testosterone
- More visible veins (vascularity)
- Better endurance, likely linked to more red blood cells
- Noticeably increased appetite
Side effects
Red blood cells and hematocrit
Boldenone stimulates red blood cell production strongly. Hematocrit (the percentage of blood made of red cells) can climb above 54%, the level at which clot and stroke risk increase and doctors usually intervene. Combined with testosterone, which does the same, the effect is larger. Regular complete blood counts are essential. Note that Canadian Blood Services has its own eligibility rules, so don’t assume blood donation is an option for managing high hematocrit; talk to a doctor.
Anxiety
Anxiety and restlessness are commonly reported, sometimes building gradually over weeks.
Heart and cholesterol
Lower HDL, higher blood pressure and thicker blood add up to cardiovascular strain. See our blood pressure guide.
Suppression
It suppresses natural testosterone and sperm production, and because it clears so slowly, recovery starts late. See the PCT guide.
Other effects
- Acne and hair loss in people prone to them
- Some estrogen-related water retention at higher doses
- Virilization in women
Bloodwork in Canada
A complete blood count is the most important test, along with lipids, blood pressure, liver and kidney function, testosterone and estradiol. Because levels build slowly, recheck after six to eight weeks and again after stopping. Book through your family doctor or privately at LifeLabs or Dynacare.
Is Equipoise legal in Canada?
Boldenone is an anabolic steroid, listed in Schedule IV of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Possessing it for personal use isn’t an offence; trafficking, importing and exporting without authorization are.
Buying Equipoise in Canada
We stock Zionova Equipoise and Equipoise Genetix Pharma, both boldenone undecylenate at 250 mg/ml in 10 ml vials. Genetix is slightly cheaper per mg at the time of writing. Live prices are on the injectables page. Older posts here covered Genetix boldenone under different titles; this guide replaces them.
Frequently asked questions
What is Equipoise used for?
It’s a veterinary steroid for horses. People use it for slow muscle gain, vascularity and endurance; it’s never been approved for human use.
Why does Equipoise raise hematocrit?
Boldenone strongly stimulates red blood cell production, which thickens the blood. It’s the main thing to monitor.
How long does Equipoise take to work?
With a half-life of about 14 days, it takes several weeks to reach steady levels, so effects build slowly.
Does Equipoise cause anxiety?
Anxiety is one of the most commonly reported side effects, often building gradually.
Is Equipoise legal in Canada?
It’s Schedule IV under the CDSA. Personal possession isn’t an offence; trafficking, importing and exporting without authorization are.
