What Zionova Deca is

Deca is short for Deca-Durabolin, the classic brand name for nandrolone decanoate. Each 10 ml Zionova vial contains 200 mg per ml, 2,000 mg in total. Nandrolone has been used medically for decades to treat anemia from kidney disease and, in some countries, muscle wasting and osteoporosis.

In bodybuilding, it’s a popular bulking compound known for steady gains in size and strength. It’s also slow to clear, strongly suppressive, and linked to libido problems if used without testosterone. Here’s what to know.

How it works

Nandrolone is testosterone missing one carbon atom. That small change shapes how it behaves:

  • Strongly anabolic, less androgenic. In tissues like the scalp and prostate, it converts to a weaker androgen (DHN), not DHT, so acne and hair loss are usually milder than with testosterone.
  • Less estrogen, more progestin. It aromatizes much less than testosterone but acts on progesterone receptors, which can raise prolactin and contribute to gynecomastia and low libido.
  • Very long-acting. The decanoate ester gives a half-life of about 6–12 days, so it’s injected once or twice a week and takes weeks to clear.

Side effects and risks

Most of Deca’s best-known side effects come from deep testosterone suppression and its progestin activity.

Libido and erections

Low libido and erectile problems (often called “deca dick”) are common when nandrolone is used without enough testosterone. Prolactin may also play a part.

Long suppression

Nandrolone shuts down natural testosterone strongly, and its long ester means recovery starts late. Fertility can take months to return.

Heart and cholesterol

Lower HDL, higher blood pressure and water retention. Long-term misuse has been linked to heart muscle changes.

Gynecomastia

Nandrolone can drive breast tissue growth through prolactin and progesterone receptors as well as estrogen. Early symptoms are worth a blood test.

For women: virilization

Less androgenic than testosterone, but a deeper voice, facial hair and menstrual changes still happen, and some changes are permanent.

Don’t use it if you

Are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding, have or have had prostate or breast cancer, have heart, liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, or are trying to conceive.

Bloodwork checklist

Test before you start, at 6–8 weeks, and 6–8 weeks after your last injection (later than usual, because of the long ester).

  • Prolactin, especially with libido problems or nipple sensitivity
  • Hormones: total and free testosterone, estradiol, LH, FSH
  • CBC: hematocrit and hemoglobin
  • Lipid panel: HDL, LDL, triglycerides
  • Liver and kidney function
  • Blood pressure weekly at home

Dosing information

Clinical reference. When nandrolone decanoate was prescribed for anemia caused by kidney disease, adult doses were typically 100–200 mg a week for men and 50–100 mg a week for women, by deep injection into muscle.

At 200 mg per ml, 0.5 ml is 100 mg and 1 ml is 200 mg. Doses for bulking are often higher, and every risk on this page rises with dose and duration.

Post-cycle therapy and support

Deca is usually run alongside testosterone, which helps protect libido and mood. Because nandrolone decanoate clears slowly, post-cycle therapy with a SERM such as tamoxifen (Nolvadex) or clomiphene (Clomid) usually starts about three weeks after the last injection.
